We are no Spielberg Family … that’s for sure!

Tags :

My Mom’s attempt to videotape my new necklace after a few short minutes of instruction after which she was quite sure she could ‘do this’ … quite funny!

We have some work to do with her zoom techniques … we’re definitely no Spielberg family!

Ms. Shourd at Press Conference (Kamran Jebreili / AP Photo)

Thanks to Sultan Qaboos and the team he organized to negotiate on behalf of Ms. Shourd, she is now home safe in the United States. If you haven’t already, please watch Ms. Shourd’s press conference where she praises Sultan Qaboos and the Omanis who spoke with the Iranian government on behalf of the three Americans who were accused of being spies while hiking near the border of Iran. For your convenience, here is a link to the press conference: Ms. Shourd Praises Sultan Qaboss and the Sultanate of Oman

It is my understanding that the Oman government is organizing a delegation to free the last two hikers. Alhumdilallah!

Hester – He’s Back … (Nuccio DiNuzzo, Tribune)

What a Monday night thriller … loved this game! Hester was amazing … loved watching him weave his way through the Pack.

And, in my opinion, Cutler is just what we needed … a quarterback who delivers. Except that one throw into the end zone that went a little wild, I think I heard the announcer’s suggest that he threw that one all the way to Hinsdale, a town in the suburbs. What a hoot!! That’s where I grew up! Ha ha ha … too funny … I sure hope my friends from Hinsdale heard that comment. Love it …

So, the Bears are the only undefeated team in the NFC. Nice. Here’s to a healthy, injury-free season ahead …

Luke Russert Wears Vibrams …

Tags :

Morning Joe was awesome today! I wish I had known it was going to be on LIVE from the Mall … I would have driven down there for my five-mile run! There’s nothing like running between the monuments … the history takes you back in time and your feet feel the patriotism with each step!

That said, I lived vicariously through those who attended Mika’s Bipartisan Health Challenge. It was great to see politicians and journalists gathered on the mall to support better health – here’s to conscious eating and a commitment to exercising daily! As much as I enjoyed the enthusiasm and interviews, my favorite moment came when Luke Russert (Tim Russert’s son) showed his Vibrams (at approximately 1:58 on the tape)! I’m with Luke … I think these Vibrams are the best! Mika wasn’t impressed … she made a funny face … she should try them!!! Check out the video … and better yet, buy a pair of Vibrams!!

Chipper Jones and retirement? Already?

Tags :

OMG, back in the early 90’s I used to work for Leader Enterprises, a sports marketing firm that represented Chipper Jones when he first started in the Big Leagues. I wrote the bio for his marketing packet. I negotiated a Charcoal Briquet deal for him in the middle of a baseball strike. I remember talking to the Jay Leno Show about having Orel Hershiser (who we also represented) on the show after the World Series in 1995. Leno really wanted Hershiser. However, when the Braves started to pull ahead in the series, I said they should consider having Chipper Jones on the show. They didn’t think he was a big enough star, yet. I faxed them articles that said otherwise. He was a ‘huge hit’ in Atlanta and his star status was gaining momentum around the US!

Within minutes of the final game when the Atlanta Braves were indeed the victors, I received a call from the Leno Show! Yes. You guessed it … they wanted Chipper Jones! 🙂

Oh, the good ole days … I just can’t believe that Chipper is close to retirement age. Sad. Ken Griffey Jr. retired this year and now General Manager Bobby Cox is leaving the Braves, too. I know Chipper will do what’s best for him … but, I will be sad to see him retire. Best of luck to you, Chipper! I’m sure he’ll go on to coach or something. Baseball is in his blood!

Healthy Thoughts … Healthier You!

(Experience Life Magazine - Oct 2009)

This article by Marc David in the October 2009 issue of Experience Life Magazine really struck me. For most of my life, I’ve been sooooo tough on myself!! I mentally berate myself for eating this-and-that, for not exercising more, etc. I hadn’t thought of those negatives thoughts as creators of a bad chemical reaction in my body. Thanks to Marc David, I’m going to start a new habit! 🙂

Check out his article and join me in thinking healthier, positive thoughts: "Think Healthy … What you need to know about the metabolic power of thought"

Recovery …

Unfortunately, I had a car accident on 30 Jan 2010 … so, I haven’t been able to use my Vibram 5-finger shoes like I had originally planned. Oh, and the 43 inches of snow we got the following week, didn’t help matters either! But, after seeing my chiropractor and giving my body due rest … I am back out hitting the snow-free pavement! Woo-hoo!

I love these 5-fingers shoes … I can’t wait to see the new running model due to come out this spring! Must check on that next. I only ran 1 mile today and walked 2 more. So far, so good! I feel so short in them … I never realized that most athletic shoes have heels.

I will have to say … I love how stable I feel in these shoes. Prior to my accident, I ran on the treadmill in both on the same day. I felt totally unsteady in my old running shoes! Let’s hope the hip pain goes away with these new shoes. I’m also thinking of trying Chi-running! Anybody want to share their thoughts on that?

Vibram Five Fingers Shoes: The Barefoot Alternative

Tags :

I am going to try these … I read about the barefoot running shoes in the book “Born to Run” by Christopher McDougall. Due to hip problems that started several years ago, I think these might actually help. If anybody else has used them, please feel free to share your story with me. What a great idea … woo-hoo!

Jewish Fast for Gaza

Tags :

What a beautiful gesture … I love this idea. I will join my friends to partake in this very important discussion. And, I agree … it is time to write a letter to my representatives in congress to call for an end to the blockade of construction supplies so that Palestinians can start to rebuild from the conflict that occurred over a year ago. Please join me in doing so … the Palestinians need our support. Here’s a link to Rabbi Brant Rosen’s blog Jewish Fast for Gaza.

Good news … America is the most loved country!

Tags :

Indeed, this is good news!!! According to a survey taken by the Nation Brand Index (NBI): America is the most loved country. If you don’t have time to read the article, here’s an excerpt:

” ‘What’s really remarkable is that in all my years studying national reputation, I have never seen any country experience such a dramatic change in its standing as we see for the United States for 2009,” said Simon Anholt, the founder of NBI, which measured the global image of 50 countries each year. He believes that during the previous administration of George W. Bush the United States suffered in the world ranking with its unpopular foreign policies but since Obama was elected, and despite the recent economic turmoil, the country’s status has risen globally. “There is no other explanation,” Anholt said in an interview, referring to the impact of Obama.”

Thank you, President Obama.
